Mobile devices outnumber desktop and laptop computers three to one worldwide, yet little information is available for designing and developing mobile applications. Mobile Design and Development fills that void with practical guidelines, standards, techniques, and best practices for building mobile products from start to finish. With this book, you’ll learn basic design and development principles for all mobile devices and platforms. You’ll also explore the more advanced capabilities of the mobile web, including markup, advanced styling techniques, and mobile Ajax.

If you’re a web designer, web developer, information architect, product manager, usability professional, content publisher, or an entrepreneur new to the mobile web, Mobile Design and Development provides you with the knowledge you need to work with this rapidly developing technology. Mobile Design and Development will help you:

• Understand how the mobile ecosystem works, how it differs from other mediums, and how to design products for the mobile context
• Learn the pros and cons of building native applications sold through operators or app stores versus mobile websites or web apps

The cost of materials varies considerably both nation-wide and locally, and shopping around usually pays dividends. Making your own furnlture can never be cheap, but if you compare the cost of any of the projects in this book with an item of similar quality in your local store, you will see that you are saving quite a lot. Another way of keeping costs down is to buy old furniture, which looks superb when renovated. We spent some time in the television series renovating an old dining table and a set of chairs, and the process described in this book.

Making your own furniture can become a Iife-long hobby. You start by making one or two things that are absolutely vital for the house, then you make something just for fun and after that you are hooked. We’ve been hooked for
years and as you turn the pages of this book, we hope that you will find something that attracts you and that you will join us in the pleasure of making furniture that is really your own.

A Modern Introduction To Probability And Statistics

A Modern Introduction To Probability And Statistics

Review

From the reviews:

” superbly motivated with interest-grabbing examples… exercises excellent and plentiful.” Edward Williams, University of Michigan-Dearborn, USA

“… it is a notoriously hard task to introduce probability and statistics with a mix of intuition and mathematics to keep students motivated. Therefore, I very much welcome this book and recommend it as course material.” Sara van de Geer, Leiden University, The Netherlands

“This textbook provides a well-written first course in probability and statistics…It is a book that has been written based on the long teaching experience of the authors and I would certainly recommend it for university coursework.” Short Book Reviews of the International Statistical Institute, December 2005

“This book has numerous quick exercises to give direct feedback to the students. A website at www.springeronline.com/978-1-85233-896-1 gives access to the data files used in the text . This will be a key text for undergraduates in computer science, physics, mathematics, chemistry, biology and business studies who are studying a mathematical statistics course, and also for more intensive engineering statistics courses for undergraduates in all engineering subjects.” (Rainer Beedgen, Zentralblatt MATH, Vol. 1079, 2006)

“The book is designed for a one-semester introductory course in probability and statistics basics for engineering students. It can also be used by students in other more mathematically oriented majors such as applied mathematics with more emphasis on the mathematics and additional coverage in topics such as combinatorics, conditional expectation, and generating functions. More elaborate exercises and real datasets are given at the end of each chapter.” (Arthur B. Yeh, Technometrics, Vol. 49 (3), August, 2007)

Product Description

Probability and Statistics are studied by most science students, usually as a second- or third-year course. Many current texts in the area are just cookbooks and, as a result, students do not know why they perform the methods they are taught, or why the methods work. The strength of this book is that it readdresses these shortcomings; by using examples, often from real-life and using real data, the authors can show how the fundamentals of probabilistic and statistical theories arise intuitively. It provides a tried and tested, self-contained course, that can also be used for self-study.

A Modern Introduction to Probability and Statistics has numerous quick exercises to give direct feedback to the students. In addition the book contains over 350 exercises, half of which have answers, of which half have full solutions. A website at www.springeronline.com/1-85233-896-2 gives access to the data files used in the text, and, for instructors, the remaining solutions. The only pre-requisite for the book is a first course in calculus; the text covers standard statistics and probability material, and develops beyond traditional parametric models to the Poisson process, and on to useful modern methods such as the bootstrap.

This will be a key text for undergraduates in Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology and Business Studies who are studying a mathematical statistics course, and also for more intensive engineering statistics courses for undergraduates in all engineering subjects.

Perfect Health: The Complete Mind/body Guide

Author(s): MD Deepak Chopra
Publisher: Harmony
Date : February 20, 2001
Pages : 0
Format : Mp3

A decade ago, Deepak Chopra, M.D., wrote Perfect Health, the first practical guide to harnessing the healing power of the mind, which became a national bestseller. The book described how breakthroughs in physics and medicine were underscoring the validity of a 5,000-year-old medical system from ancient India known as Ayurveda (”the knowledge of life span” in Sanskrit). Perfect Health went on to describe how to apply the ancient wisdom of Ayurveda to everyday life. In celebration of this classic work we have created this new edition, revised and updated to include the latest medical research.

Although we experience our bodies as solid, they are in fact more like fires that are constantly being consumed and renewed. We grow new stomach linings every five days, for instance. Our skin is new every five weeks. Each year, fully 98 percent of the total number of atoms in our bodies is replaced. Ayurveda gives us the tools to intervene at this quantum level, where we are being created anew each day. Ayurveda tells us that freedom from sickness depends on contacting our own awareness, bringing it into balance, and then extending that balance to the body.

Perfect Health provides a complete step-by-step program of mind body medicine tailored to individual needs. A quiz identifies the reader’s mind body type: thin, restless Vata; enterprising, efficient Pitta; tranquil, steady Kapha; or any combination of these three. This body type becomes the basis for a specific Ayurvedic program of diet, stress reduction, neuromuscular integration, exercise, and daily routines. The result is a total plan, tailor-made for each individual, to reestablish the body’s essential balance with nature; to strengthen the mind body connection; and to use the power of quantum healing to transcend the ordinary limitations of disease and aging–in short, for achieving Perfect Health.
